What Would Your Name Tag Say?

1 min read , October 20, 2021

What if instead of wearing a sticker that let people know your name, it told people your struggles? What would your sticker say?

Would you treat people differently, understanding their struggles from the beginning?

I am someone who would talk to a bare wall and have a conversation, someone who always had to have their seat moved in school for talking, and the child who spoke in their sleep.

Most people would guess having issues with communicating would be the least of my problems.

But, my sticker shows that I bottle up my emotions. I am someone who constantly pushes more and more of my feelings down.

While my dad was sick, I bottled up cases of emotions and shoved them in a closet, hoping that I would never need to see them again. But, if you’ve ever tried to open a closet door after years of shoving things into it, you know that once that door opens, everything spills out.

So here I am, years later, picking up the mess from the closet that exploded from all the bottling up I did (and honestly still do).

I share my name tag in hopes for you to understand the struggles people hide, the struggle people learn to shove into the back of a closet.

What would your name tag say? Would people be shocked to know your struggles? Would you be there for people differently, knowing how they internally handled the situation thrown at them?
