Take The Trip

Narrative 1 min read , March 30, 2022

I understand that the idea of a trip, vacation, a day away seems impossible.

But, I’m here to tell you that it is not.

Can it be hard to plan? Yes. Can it be stressful? Yes.

Can it be life-changing and the breath of fresh air you mentally, emotionally, and physically need? Without a doubt.

We all need a change of scenery, a change in routine, a moment in time to look forward to seeing on a calendar.

Remember when we were children, and we would go to a friend’s house and do the same thing we would be doing at home? We would watch the same shows and relax on the couch, but being at someone else’s house was more fun than your own.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day. It is so easy to forget to take the trip or even leave the house in general. We need to bring exciting moments like that back into our caregiving journeys.

As caregivers, we spend our days making appointments, putting memos on calendars, or calling on behalf of someone else.

Set alerts, the loud obnoxious ones. The ones that make you jump out of your skin so that you do not forget to put yourself first for that moment in time. Put a trip on your calendar, in your memos, and call and book your stay calling for yourself.

Taking a trip can be life-changing, and maybe just maybe, it is your life that needs this moment to be changed.

You will never know if you do not try.
